Why does pricing differ so much for business coaching services in the UK?

Before we look into the costs, it’s important to understand why prices can vary quite drastically. Investing in a business coach is like the sale of a vehicle or even a home.

With so many options available, your investment can vary. Just like a Kia Stonic can start around £20K for a basic style, it can quickly cost over £35K once you add items such as upgraded tyres, stereo systems, a chrome finish, 4-wheel drive or GPS etc.

Considering the average person sells or trades in their vehicle within the first five years, why do so many people choose to get so many upgrades? The answer is that most people understand the importance of getting what they want the first time to not have any regrets down the road.

Most British people spend over 30 minutes a day in their vehicles. They want to make sure their vehicle will provide them with comfort, quality, longevity and ease of use.

The same principle applies to business coaching.

You're going to be using the tools and the systems every day for as long as you own your business. Choosing the right business coach and programme the first time is critical to ensure maximum growth with minimum effort. Because of this, most business owners choose the business coaching programme that will have the most impact on their lives and business in the long run. That’s why there are so many extra programmes available with business coaching.

Unfortunately, some people only focus on the initial price of business coaching and find the cheapest business coach. Therefore sacrificing quality, systems and support, which inevitably leads to regret - especially considering that, unlike a vehicle, business coaching cannot be traded if one is dissatisfied.

The average monthly cost of business coaching in the UK

The average monthly cost of business coaching in the UK can vary widely depending on several factors. These can include the experience level of the coach, the length and frequency of coaching sessions, and the specific services being provided. Most business coaches in the UK charge between £250 and £3,000 per month for their services.

At the lower end of this range are programmes for smaller businesses or startups. These coaching services typically offer shorter coaching sessions (often around 30 minutes) once or twice per month. They'll focus on specific areas such as marketing strategy or financial planning.

They may also provide purely online video learning without any interaction with a coach. This style suits busy business owners or leaders who want to learn in their own time. While these coaching services may be more affordable than their higher-priced counterparts. It's important to note that they may not be tailored to your specific needs or have the expertise to draw upon.

On the higher end of the pricing spectrum are experienced coaches who have a proven track record of success. These coaches often charge upwards of £2,500 per month for their services. Offering longer coaching sessions on a weekly or fortnightly basis. They may also provide extra services such as team training or executive coaching.

It's worth noting that while these prices may seem high at first glance. We see many business owners who invest in quality coaching see a return on investment (ROI) over time. This is because they gain new insights into their operations, identify areas for improvement, and make strategic changes based on their coach's advice. A business coach should not be something that you're spending money on. You're buying a service that's ultimately going to pay you back.

What are the different types of business coaching programmes (and their prices)?

Below we have provided a range of different programmes that are available. All prices are based on findings from publicly available information. Prices can vary drastically based on extra service(s) you choose and where you are based.

The cost of online business coaching programmes

Online business coaching is one of the cheaper methods of business coaching. Business owners will work with a coaching service over the internet, gaining access to online courses and workshops.

The cost of online business coaching programmes can vary depending on the provider. Some providers may offer self-paced courses or online group coaching programmes. These are more affordable. Other providers may offer one-on-one coaching sessions alongside online learning, which is more expensive - expect to invest upwards of £1000 a month for this.

Expect to invest between £50 - £500 a month.

It’s worth noting there are many free online programmes which are perfect for start-ups and young entrepreneurs. The Prince's Trust is one example.

With online coaching programmes, you’ll be guided on specific topics related to your needs and your business. Some of these include marketing, sales, leadership, goal-setting, time management etc.

One of the benefits of online business coaching is it allows for greater flexibility and convenience compared to traditional in-person coaching. You can schedule sessions at times that work best for you without having to worry about travel time or location constraints. It also makes it easier to access business coaching services located in different parts of the world.

However, be warned as you may end up managing every single component of your business without further support or guidance.

The cost of group business coaching programmes

Group business coaching refers to a type of coaching in which a business coach works with a group of individuals. These are typically entrepreneurs or small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) business owners. Group coaching can take many forms, including workshops, mastermind groups, retreats and membership programmes.

Expect to invest between £200 - £1,000 a month for group coaching

In a group coaching setting, you can learn from each other's experiences and perspectives while also receiving guidance and support from your coach. The coach may provide training on specific topics such as marketing, sales, or leadership. Or they may work with you on more general skills such as goal-setting and time management.

Group business coaching can be an effective way for you to gain new insights into your businesses. It allows you to connect with like-minded individuals who share similar goals and challenges. It can also be more affordable than one-on-one coaching sessions since the coach can work with many people at once.

The cost of one-to-one business coaching

One-to-one Coaching is when a coach works with a single business owner or leader on a one-to-one basis. This means the coach provides personalised guidance and support tailored to the needs and goals of the person.

A one-to-one business coaching programme in 2023 is between £1,000 - £2,500.

During one-to-one business coaching sessions, the coach may work with you on a wide range of topics relating to your business. The coach may provide feedback on specific challenges and opportunities facing your business and life. As well as work with you to develop strategies for overcoming these.

One of the benefits of one-to-one business coaching is that it allows for a high level of customisation and personalisation. The coach can tailor their approach to meet the unique needs and preferences. They will provide targeted guidance and support designed to help you achieve your specific objectives.

Here at ActionCOACH, our premium one-to-one business coaching programme also includes group coaching sessions every 90 days, access to a continuous online learning portal, ongoing support (pretty much 24/7), as well as weekly or fortnightly one-to-one coaching sessions.

Many business coaching companies offer one-to-one programmes. If you’re not sure who the best business coaching companies are, take a look at the article, Top 5 Business Coaching Companies in the UK.
