What is the difference between a consultant and a business coach?
Business coaching and business consultancy are both aimed at improving business performance, but they are different in several ways.
Business coaching is a process where a coach will work with you one-on-one or in a group to help you achieve your personal and professional goals, improve your skills, and maximise your potential, just like a sports coach will work with their team to continue development even if they're at No.1.
Business consultancy, on the other hand, is a process where a consultant works with an organisation to identify problems, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement. The consultant provides expert advice and recommendations and implement strategies to help the organisation achieve its objectives.
If you want to develop your skills, build your confidence, and achieve personal and professional goals, then business coaching may be the right choice for you. If you want help to implement and improve your business operations, solve specific problems, and achieve specific outcomes, then business consultancy may be a better fit.

What is the difference between one-to-one coaching and group coaching
When considering business coaching options, it's important to understand the differences between one-to-one coaching and group coaching. Both approaches offer unique benefits and are designed to meet varying needs and preferences.
One-to-One Coaching
Personalised Attention:
- One-to-one coaching provides a highly personalised experience. The coach focuses exclusively on you and your business, allowing for tailored strategies and solutions that address your specific challenges and goals.
Flexibility:
- One-to-one coaching offers flexibility in scheduling sessions and adapting the coaching process to fit your pace and needs. This allows for a more dynamic and responsive coaching relationship.
Confidentiality:
- The confidential nature of one-to-one sessions encourages open and honest discussions, enabling you to explore sensitive topics and challenges without hesitation.
Direct Feedback:
- You'll receive immediate and direct feedback, allowing you to address issues quickly and effectively, making adjustments as needed.
Group Coaching
Collaborative Environment:
- Group coaching brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds and industries, fostering a collaborative learning environment. Participants can share experiences, insights, and best practices.
Networking Opportunities:
- Group coaching offers the chance to build relationships and network with other like-minded business owners and professionals, potentially leading to new partnerships and opportunities.
Cost-Effective:
- Group coaching is often more cost-effective than one-to-one coaching, making it accessible to a wider range of businesses and individuals.
Shared Learning:
- Participants learn from each other's successes and setbacks, gaining valuable insights and lessons that can be applied to their own businesses.
Choosing the Right Approach
The choice between one-to-one coaching and group coaching depends on your specific needs, goals, and preferences. If you seek personalised guidance and a highly tailored experience, one-to-one coaching may be the best fit. However, if you value collaborative learning and networking opportunities, group coaching could be more beneficial.
At ActionCOACH UK, we offer both one-to-one and group coaching options to accommodate different needs and help you achieve your business objectives. Our experienced coaches are dedicated to supporting your growth, whether you choose an individual or group approach.

How much time or work will I have to put in?
The main purpose of coaching is to help you become more efficient and effective in how you invest all of your resources, especially your time, which is the most valuable of them all. At the start of the coaching journey, we focus on time management to help you analyse your relationship with time, identify how you're currently spending it and provide you with clarity around your choices. This will help you make significant improvements in both productivity and efficiency, allowing you to invest more of your time working on the business as a true leader rather than in the business as just a part of the machinery.
We strongly recommend that you dedicate at least 20% of your time to working on activities, and we will assist you in finding ways to achieve this goal. You can learn more about how much time should you dedicate to coaching in our article here.

Business coaching can make your dreams possible...
Business Owner, Stuart Everard was asked what he wanted to achieve from his business in the next years. Stuart replied, a Boxer dog, paddock for his wife and a Maserati. Working closely with his local Action Coach, Stuart had achieved all three personal goals within 5 years.
Stuart Everard, Managing Director, Everquip Garage Euipment
Fergus Howie has been working with his ActionCOACH for over 6 years. In that time, they’ve had a 360% increase in their net profit and on top of that become an award-winning business, winning several awards for the quality of their products. With the help of his coach, he’s been able to spend more time working on his personal life developing his own life goals.
Fergus Howie, Business Owner, Wicks Manor Farm
I would recommend ActionCOACH to anybody, it's really turned around my business. After suffering a large loss in my business I didn't know how to turn things around. Having a coach gave me a new perspective of my business and their support has resulted in my business making a profit again.
Grant Coles, Managing Director, Access4lofts
We want to be £2M+ business in the next five years. Most Business Owners have that excitement, they have their goal but it's difficult to see it. When you start coaching you get to see it, it starts to become clearer and therefore you believe it's more attainable. We're solicitors, we were never trained to run a business. A business coach is a fantastic asset, it pays for itself, supports itself, brings in much much more than just the coaching to your business.
Bill Barton, Managing Director, Barton Legal
When I go home now I don't have to take my laptop. I actually get to make tea, spend time with the kids and take the dog out for a walk with my partner. She's seen the positive side, I'm not as stressed with the day-to-day stuff or having to order parts at 9 o'clock at night. It's just allowed me to be present at home and be able to focus on the family.
Paul Van Heeswyk, Managing Director, Crucial Engineering
It's transformative and until you actually do it you don't realise how much it can benefit yourself and your business, it's not just focused on the business.
Jim Mckellar, Managing Director, Orchard View Farm
