When Kellie Tillery stepped into the role of Managing Director at School ICT Services, the responsibility felt overwhelming.
Kellie admits she felt “a little bit lost” about what the role actually involved, how to organise her time, and how to confidently lead the business into the future. That’s when she began working with ActionCOACH White Rose.
“I kind of felt like I was just spinning. I didn’t know what I should be doing, what I shouldn’t be doing, where to start with the job, or how to make it my own.”
The pressure of leadership began to affect not only the business, but Kellie’s own confidence and mental wellbeing too. Much of her time was being spent “in the weeds” of the business, focused on the day-to-day, without enough time to think strategically or plan for the future. Over the last 18 months, working closely with Jenni has helped Kellie become more organised, more strategic, and more confident in her role as Managing Director. Rather than constantly firefighting and focusing only on the “here and now”, coaching sessions helped Kellie to create a clearer long-term vision for both herself and the business, with structured one, two and five year goals. Every coaching session includes reviewing actions and progress, ensuring plans are followed through and momentum continues between sessions.
“In a job like mine, there isn’t a lot of accountability. So it’s really good having that external source. It makes you actually do it.”
The impact has been significant both personally and professionally. In recent months, the business has continued “going from strength to strength”, with major improvements to systems, processes, budgeting and financial management. More importantly, Kellie now feels she is truly fulfilling her role as Managing Director, leading the business strategically, communicating the vision to the team, and steering the company towards long-term success.
“I feel like I’m actually doing my job properly as a managing director now… leading the ship and making sure we’ve got longevity.”
The coaching has also brought valuable outside perspective and support when navigating the pressures and challenges of senior leadership. And the impact hasn’t stopped at the business. By becoming more organised and strategic, Kellie has been able to reclaim valuable personal time too.
“I feel like I’ve just got a little bit more time back for my family.”
