When ActionCOACH White Rose first met Adam Brown of D&K Pallets, his business was making a loss and he was unsure how to resolve it.
“There was a lot of stress and worrying.”
While Adam admits that it didn't happen overnight, and involved a lot of hard work, after six months of working with his coach, Jenni Morgan, they could see the fruits of their labour on the balance sheet.
“The first couple of months we had to work out where was going wrong and what we needed to do to change it. Then once we started implementing the changes, that's when we knew we were going in the right direction... and could start to see it in the Profit & Loss.”
Having that understanding of the finances was key for Adam, giving him the figures to back up business decisions he was making.
“Now you just don’t seem as blind when you look into things”.
It was also essential for being able to set realistic goals for the medium and long term; both for growing the business, and for generating enough profit to buy the warehouse that they were leasing.
One of the changes was to put a much more agile structure in place, by training up employees in all warehouse roles. This allows them to move employees around the business depending on where they needed the support.
Just two years on from the beginning of the business coaching journey, they saw a 71% increase in turnover, and a massive 800% year-on-year uplift in their net profit – from £20,000 to £180,000!
Not only that, but Adam is proud to say that they’ve achieved one of their main goals – to purchase the warehouse they were leasing.
“It's been a push, but we have got there in the timescale that we needed.”
Alongside the financial success of the business, Adam is reaping the personal benefits of having a business coach.
“I’m definitely less stressed... I’ve started to have a bit more free time to do stuff that I want to do outside of work.”
Adam knows that without ActionCOACH White Rose, his business just wouldn’t be in its current strong position.
“They genuinely help you to achieve your goals. The coaches are great and the help you receive is unbelievable. I've never looked back, and I don't intend to stop having a coach even when I've got to where I need to go. I'm really excited for what the future holds.”
Update:
Adam began his coaching journey in 2021 with a turnover of £765k but the business was losing money. By 2025 the business had grown to a turnover of £1,737k with a net Profit of £167k (increases of 127% and 1028% respectively). In 2026 the business is set to turnover £2m with a net profit of £300k (an increase versus 2021 of 161% on turnover and 1968% on net profit).
